Q: Brass Hands. How’d you get that nickname?
A: Had me a vision of the future. In about a hundred years, give or take, so roughly ‘bout 1960 or so, a young man will come along, one Dick “Stonefingers” Stuart. He’ll patrol the grounds his newfangled nine, tho’ without much luck or skill. With his big bat, tho’, they’ll have no choice but to keep him in the first nine. With “Brass Hands,” I pay fitting tribute to his (lack of) fielding prowess. And I also celebrate my own (lack of) fielding prowess.
Q: What bat do you use?
A: Smacker! The Jackie is my go-to, but the custom WM-1 that Brian made for me is a work of engineering genius! I’ll be using both a lot this year.
Q: What positions do you play?
A: I’m too old to roam the pastures, so I stick close to home: Third sack, Short, Second sack. I even hurl that onion once in awhile. Anything that doesn’t require too much mobility or too many long throws.
Q: What’s your favorite moment from last season?
A: I have two. The first is when ‘Shanks ran down that long fly ball to save the day in Roane County. The second is when Uncle Jessie stuck out his claw to secure our first match against Oak Hill. Them two plays? They saved our season!
Q: What are you looking forward to most this season?
A: Another race for the flag!
